There was no manual with this MD at the time of purchase. The one switch is the on / off & volume will the other is the descriminator. The metal detector is an old Radio Shack special. I live in cottage country a few a few blocks away from a popular lake one hour north of Toronto. Being in my early 50's I have managed to get past that issue much to my wifes chagrin. But being a teenager he is too worried about who might see him using it. We got it for him at a yard sale several years ago. I have been using my sons metal detector for the the last week with some success.
